The purpose of this position is to oversee and direct the performance of all field construction activities for assigned craft areas in conformance with plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates. The position requires an authoritative knowledge of assigned work, an holistic grasp of complex situations, the ability to assess the overall picture and alternative approaches to project objectives. With command, this position directs other line supervision as necessary in their roles to meet or exceed all project objectives. This position requires the ability to coordinate and direct all construction crafts within the assigned area and generally serve as the most senior craft authority at the site in their areas of responsibility. This position is typically responsible for numerous crafts, very large or multiple areas, and/or large numbers of craftsmen, multiple shifts; and often including direct oversight or coordination of other contractors/subcontractors.

  • Oversee and mentor other superintendents while executing the MI-75 project work
  • Managing the performance of productivity, safety, quality, environment and schedule adherence
  • Utilize equipment, material, and labor in order to maximize production and minimize costs in the area of assigned responsibility
  • Coordinate and interface effectively with other craft superintendents and subcontractors, as well as project staff and leadership to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence
  • Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling difficulties, informing project and corporate management as appropriate
  • Assist in schedule planning, determining craft labor levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc.
  • Ensure project rules, procedures and programs are followed consistently, including those involving safety, attendance, and workplace behavior standards as reflected in policies
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently supervise and evaluate craft performance
  • Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings and other documents
  • Oversee and approve the monthly job cost updates, weekly labor distribution reports and quarterly forecasts.
  • Make craft/resource changes to achieve production goals to meet and exceed forecast
  • Manage subcontract administration to meet schedule and budget
  • Develop a program to maintain good client and stakeholder relations involving staff on site
  • Review, approve and negotiate subcontract change orders
  • Ensure Superintendents are completing and documenting daily records
  • Ensure that all performance evaluations and completed in a timely fashion for direct reports
  • Recommend, where appropriate, organizational, policy and procedural or staff changes
  • Review and approve or reject promotions up to Key Foremen
  • Ensure Superintendents are following Inspection and Test Plans to ensure project quality requirements are met
  • Plan and direct the work activities for assigned construction crafts in alignment with available engineering deliverables, tools, construction equipment, and materials
  • Approve or authorize the coordination of craft personnel, material, and equipment needed to meet schedules; typically responsible to establish construction crew organization and composition including craftsmen qualification level, foremen and general foremen
  • Directly support project and construction management with planning and utilization of proper means and methods for all construction activities
  • Analyze situations, identify and forecast pertinent problems and evaluate realistic options; and recommend/implement appropriate course of action
  • Adhere to and support Health, Safety & Environmental and Sustainability Policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 10yr minimum: experienced with Heavy Civil HWY construction including excavation, grading, paving, drainage, utilities, pile driving, cast in place concrete, formwork, girder erection, bridge deck forming/pouring, sheet pile/shoring
  • Proven ability promoting outstanding customer service and client relations
  • Excellent skills in interpersonal relations, conflict resolution
  • Basic computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets and electronic presentation programs
  • Functional proficiency in project controls, human relations, industrial relations, and contract management as it applicable to assigned area of responsibility
  • Demonstrated strong decision making, critical thinking and problem solving skills
